We have renovated and modernized the historic tea house’s interior and added a bar to the lounge to offer our guests an incredible fine dining ambience and experience. Take, for example, a beautiful round brownie, topped with a pretty dollop of pink cream. You would never guess the indulgent morsel was both gluten-free and vegan, the topping coconut cream whipped with pomegranate.

Crocker spent a fair amount of time inventing that bite, which is downright delicious even to those not on a restrictive diet. The texture of the whipped topping and the moistness of the brownie are obsession-worthy—too bad it’s gone in just a bite or two. But lingering and sharing have been in short supply since COVID-19 hit—and for a time, it appeared that Wenham Tea House, the oldest operating tea house in the United States, might fall victim to the pandemic.

I used to take my mom to afternoon tea all over Southern California as a way of spending quality time with her. When my kids were very little, I brought them along as well and they were surprisingly well-behaved. The delicate China teacups all survived intact, despite tiny hands. While the ladies who established the tea room in 1912 might disapprove, these days guests can order their tea spiked, starting with a glass of sparkling wine followed by a liqueur chosen to pair with whatever tea you are enjoying.

Local restaurateurs and Hamilton residents Brenden Crocker and his wife Milissa Oraibi had been eyeing the charming house in the center of town since well before the pandemic, seeing it as a terrific spot to extend their brand. We at Plat Du Jour began by offering upscale comfort food with contactless delivery during Covid after restaurants closed their doors. We were thrilled to help families and loved ones in the the comfort and safety of their homes. Our customers loved our delicious food and we soon evolved into a successful catering company.

In the early days of the pandemic, restaurateurs Fresh Foods, like many of their colleagues, concentrated on takeout food to stay in business. Eventually, they transitioned to takeout and catering work full time, which left an opening for a new operator at the Tea House.

Whether you are planning a romantic dinner for two, a dinner party, or any special occasion, our Chef will create an exquisite fine dining menu for your event. Crocker and Oraibi should be familiar names to anyone who follows the North Shore restaurant scene—the couple also operates Black Arrow in Manchester, and previously owned Wild Horse Tavern in Beverly and The Old Spot in Salem. While Crocker is careful to be respectful of the long history and abiding love that generations have for afternoon tea at Wenham Tea House, there is an area where he is really making his mark. With the change in ownership came dinner service, featuring a mix of new dishes and greatest hits from the chef’s previous kitchens—something sorely needed in an area with few evening options.
The Plat Du Jour Bistro features Classic French & Mediterranean cuisine in a neighborhood bistro setting. The restaurant offers fine dining, Sunday brunch, afternoon tea, private parties, gourmet prepared foods for pickup, online ordering, catering, and an extensive retail shop with fine teas and charcuterie items along with chef inspired gifts. That’s operator Brendan Crocker, who most recently took over the space with his wife Milissa Oraibi. They certainly kept the tea, but they also added brunch, lunch, and dinner service to the quaint spot that has everything from a cozy dining room, an outdoor patio on their gorgeous grounds, and a gift shop. Chef Patrick brings his expertise to your home, office or event space, giving you the freedom to enjoy top-quality food without effort.
Items like roasted haddock with a sherry-cream sauce, filet mignon, vegetarian cassoulet, and a thick burger topped with cheddar and brie fondue. A new focus on special diets is driven in part by the couple’s daughter, who has a severe gluten allergy and is also vegan. Crocker brainstormed with his daughter on that brownie bite, which was included on a recent classic tea service, but would also be a star of the gluten-free option. Crafting a fully vegan tea service is still in the works, but there is a vegetarian offering, which changes with what is fresh and in season. During lunch and dinner service, Wenham Tea House has a variety of appetizers- from the elegant Tuna Tartare served over house made chips with carrots and cucumbers drizzled with Asian aioli. Or try the indulgent house made potato chips- perfect for sharing.
This season's omakase starts with caviar and Wagyu and is followed by a refreshing gazpacho, tender grilled duck breast, a pairing of beef tenderloin, and lobster-stuffed squash blossoms. The five-course meal is $155 a person and can be upgraded with a wine pairing for an additional $85. If you're craving a spin on a steakhouse classic, CUT's creamed spinach is its most popular side and is topped with a crisp fried egg. The towering dessert is composed of pineapple sorbet, buttermilk white chocolate cake, passionfruit seeds, and pink pineapple. First opened in 1953, Taylor’s Steakhouse moved to their current location on 8th Street in 1970, then watched as the the neighborhood completely shifted through the decades.

The cheesy, golden brown garlic bread is a sleeper hit, but make sure to save some to mop up the extra lemon caper butter from your order of sand dabs. When it comes to the main course, Carlitos Gardel's lean cut of skirt steak smothered in herby, spicy chimichurri is the most popular dish on the menu. If you're looking for a bit more oomph, the tender ribeye is another great cut. Best of all, the wine list is filled with an incredible selection of some of Argentina's best bottles.
#22. Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar
That's not to say that you should avoid unadorned steaks; the 16-ounce strip is seared in a cast-iron skillet, and just might be New Orleans' finest steak. The classic American steakhouse tradition shaped this fine dining hotspot in Pasadena; subtle Japanese influence can be found in its decor, menu, and imported certified A-5 cuts of Wagyu. A distinct Californian feel can also be found in Alexander's seasonally-shaped menu, which Chef Richard Archuleta builds alongside a network of local farmers and foragers. You can tuck into your meal inside the restaurant's spacious, minimalist dining room or enjoy the fresh air of Alexander's outdoor patio and views of Pasadena's famous city hall. This luxurious Beverly Grove steakhouse sports a menu of high-quality meats perfect for celebrating your next special occasion.
Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles: April 26
The classy and stylish Kayne Prime is a Nashville must-visit, run by M Street, one of the city's most successful and trend-setting restaurant groups. The market-driven menu is impeccably sourced, and Kayne Prime is one of the few steakhouses to list exactly where each cut comes from. Steaks are cooked under a 1,200-degree broiler and served with your choice of 10 "chapeaux," including truffle béarnaise, yuzu chimichurri, foie gras and bone marrow butter. The flagship restaurant inside the National Historic Landmark Mission Inn Hotel & Spa, Duane's Prime has been awarded four diamonds by AAA every year since 1996. This opulent and sophisticated place serves wet-aged USDA Prime steaks as well as a wide selection of fresh seafood. The châteaubriand for two, carved tableside, is the way to go if you're on a date, but other attractive offerings include the rib-eye and filet mignon, classic steak Diane and a trio of filet medallions each topped with a different sauce.
Chef Richard Chamberlain opened Chamberlain's Steak & Chop House in 1993, and this classy Texas meat emporium has thrived ever since. The appetizer list includes unconventional steakhouse dishes such as fresh pea soup with smoked pork belly and Vermont cheddar, ahi tuna poke with sesame ponzu and sriracha crema, and Texas wagyu beef potstickers. But there are also plenty of standards here, with 16 different steaks and chops on the menu, from a 6-ounce 40-day dry-aged filet mignon to a 14-ounce Texas wagyu rib-eye. Midtown Manhattan classic Gallagher's has been holding its own on 52nd Street since it first opened its doors as a speakeasy in 1927. The only steakhouse in the city that grills its steaks over hickory coals, Gallaghers is renowned for its porterhouse, which is available for two, three or four.
New York’s Best (Fake) Steak House Opens Up - The New York Times
But even if you don’t care about which starlet sat in which leather booth, you'll be excited about the dry-aged New York strip with salsa verde and roasted garlic at the center of your table. It’s tender enough to cut with a fork and tastes like it was broiled by a dragon that went to culinary school. Taylor's may not have the most unconventional menu, but they hit the classics out of the park. Plus, the restaurant has all the classic sides you could ask for, from garlic spinach to a twice-baked potato. If you run into a chilly day in Los Angeles, Taylor's offers a well-priced bowl of caramelized French onion soup. If you're ready to ball out, opt for the restaurant's signature Maine lobster pot pie with a crisp, golden brown pastry top, brandied lobster cream, black truffles, and market vegetables.
The best steakhouses in Los Angeles
You'll sip clear, earthy beef broth, try thin-sliced pieces of NY strip, then finish with a wood-fired ribeye. If you're looking for a beef-filled dinner that isn't just another big slab of steak and a side of potatoes, Matū is an excellent option to keep in mind. Comparing Mun to your basic KBBQ experience is like putting up your local rec center against a fancy gym with free scented towels. Everything about this Koreatown spot is luxe, from the quality of the meats to the bar that pours a solid Old Fashioned. You'll get to choose between rounds of marbled flat-iron steaks, aged ribeye, and short ribs that pull right off the bone, plus sides like beef tartare bibimbap and kimchi pancakes glued together with molten cheese.
The Old Place has a Wild West aesthetic that's not unlike what you'll find in Pioneertown. Except here you'll eat American comfort staples like chicken pot pie, fruit cobblers in cast-iron pans, and something called a "noodle bake" comprised of thick egg noodles smothered in three kinds of cheese. It's one of the heftiest steaks in the city and considering it comes with a salad and loaded baked potato, the $58 price is very fair.
Redding
Head out to Carlitos Gardel's wood-paneled back patio for some fresh air and casual ambiance — it's one of the best steakhouse patios in the city. A little over 10 years ago, Chi Spacca became LA’s first meat-curing facility to be certified by the Department of Public Health. This Italian restaurant specializes in bistecca Fiorentina, a 50-ounce dry-aged prime porterhouse.
For those intimidated by that massive size, there’s the crostata alla Fiorentina, a prime dry-aged, bone-in New York steak that registers only 36 ounces. Don’t forget to share the famous focaccia di recco to start, a cheesy flatbread perfected by chef Nancy Silverton. Since 1973, Cattleman's Steakhouse owner Dieter Gerzymisch has been purchasing fresh meat daily from local ranches and portioning it out on the premises, so it follows that the menu is all about meat, meat and more meat. There's the top sirloin, New York strip, filet and rib-eye, each weighing in at 10 ounces. But you want to come for The Wagon Master, a one-and-a-quarter-pound T-bone; The Cowgirl, a one-and-a-half-pound T-bone; and finally, The Cowboy, a full two pounds of T-bone goodness.
Lawry's The Prime Rib may not be the most modern steakhouse in Los Angeles, but we wouldn't have it any other way. With a dining room decked out in gold, mahogany, and green velvet and an unapologetically decadent menu to match, it's no surprise that Lawry's has maintained its iconic status over its near-century in business. The LA staple has been serving up steaks since 1938, and once you take in its famous prime rib dinner, you'll begin to understand why. Dear John's menu is similarly traditional, complete with a selection of classic steak cuts, appetizers, and sides. The Caesar salad is tossed table-side and should be the way you kick off your meal. If you want to add some more greens to your order, the broccolini with chili, lemon, and breadcrumbs is a side that shouldn't be skipped.
Get a bone marrow pie and cheese-filled focaccia di recco to round out the experience of a dry-aged florentine steak with a charred crust and medium-rare interior. If a $285 bone-in porterhouse sounds like your idea of a special night, Chi Spacca is the place to be. This steakhouse is located in the heart of Beverly Hills, a few blocks from Rodeo Drive. High ceilings, geometric lighting, impeccably set tables, and an eye-catching bar combine to create Steak 48's modern, upscale feel. The kitchen is separated from the main dining room by a wall of glass, so you can catch a glimpse of your plate before it hits the table. Though red meat is central to the Steak 48 operation, it also offers a killer selection of fresh seafood.
Its original location can be found off 8th Street in Koreatown, where the interior reflects 20th-century luxury. Think wood-paneled walls, velvet armchairs, shiny red leather booths, and a bar where you can pull up a stool and order a great Manhattan. In 2009, the Taylor family started up a second location on Foothill Boulevard up in La Cañada Flintridge, bringing great steak to a new neighborhood of Angelenos. The menu is chock-full of the finer things in life, from caviar to seared foie gras to Dover sole to dry-aged, bone-in rib-eye to A5 certified Kobe beef from Japan.
Primary Menu
Picture an old-school dining space with white tablecloths, portraits of tango legends, and waiters floating between tables pouring glasses of Argentinian reds. All the cuts on the menu, from the juicy ojo de bife to the charred slabs of entraña, come with a side of garlicky chimichurri that you should generously drizzle on everything. There's also a full parrillada for two if you want to try a bunch of different meats, and several incredible dulce de leche desserts. Whenever we need a break from the chaos and congestion of this century, we take a drive up to this 19th-century general-store-turned-saloon in the Santa Monica Mountains.
Voted Best Steakhouse in L.A.
You can also double down on umami flavor with the black truffle mac and cheese, another decadent Michael Mina signature that shouldn't be missed. Light up your order with Michael's ahi tartare, topped with Asian pear, pine nuts, a trio of peppers, garlic, and sesame. If you're feeling parched, the restaurant's 21-page drink menu has something for everyone. Towering vaulted ceilings, a copper-paneled fire pit, and massive crystal chandeliers set the scene for one of the most luxurious dinners in LA. By night, it may be a high-end Hollywood staple, but by day, Gwen hosts a butcher shop filled with well-sourced cuts.

This Steakhouse Is a Must-Stop for Rodeo Cowboys in San Angelo.
Valet parking is offered, servers (some of whom have been working there for 30-plus years) wear tuxedos and it has one of the best wine lists in the state. The best part, of course, is the steaks, which are dry-aged for a minimum of 28 days and hand-cut on premises. While non-dry-aged steaks are available, we suggest you spend a few extra bucks and try either the bone-in New York strip, bone-in rib-eye or 34-ounce rib-eye for two — you won't regret it. And make sure to try the onion rings; famed chef James Beard called them the best he'd ever had. This clubby spot in Beverly Hills specializes in multi-course, prix-fixe menus consisting of various wagyu dishes. It's definitely indulgent, but dishes like steak tartare and beef croquetas are presented in a way that doesn't feel like you're in a meat gauntlet.
#5. Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar
Opt for the parrillada plate, as it comes with skirt steak, short ribs, sausages, and sweetbreads for a sampling of everything grilled and glorious. Backed by heavy hitters like Dr. Dre and NBA legend Jerry West, this Sherman Oaks steakhouse opened in November 2023. Try the petit filets, dry-aged 42-ounce tomahawk steak, or choose from three different types of wagyu.
The 19 best steakhouses in Houston - Houston Chronicle
You could go for the KC strip, a cut that this restaurant helped to popularize, but you might as well go all out and order the "Playboy Strip," a two-inch-thick, 25-ounce sirloin. Cut is a Wolfgang Puck-owned steakhouse in Beverly Hills that is predictably expensive and surprisingly excellent. Before you can even order a $20 glass of wine, a suited server shows up with a platter of steaks from all over the world, each more marbled than a countertop in Architectural Digest. The move here is to get one of the shareable cuts, like the 24-ounce New York strip that arrives expertly charred, sliced, and served with various mustards.
Chandler's also has a seafood selection so good you just might forget Idaho is landlocked. This Brentwood steakhouse has one of the most beautiful dining rooms in the city—with the sort of well-heeled, designer bag-carrying local clientele that one might expect for the area. Enter through Baltaire’s enormous wooden front doors and you’ll be treated to a refined take on classic steakhouse fare, plus a few standout California-style sides like spicy salmon crispy rice and seasonal grilled artichokes.
American Beauty
While you can easily whip out the grill and cook up your own filet mignon, going out to a classic steakhouse is a charming and timeless experience that never gets old. Thankfully, Los Angeles is home to several top-notch steakhouses that specialize in some of the most coveted cuts of meat. From Brazilian steakhouses to American staples, carnivores, and steak lovers have no shortage of options in the City of Angels. Whether you’re looking for a prime rib, a porterhouse, tomahawk or a ribeye, there’s no shortage of steakhouse options across California. But with restaurants specializing in various cuts of red meat being some of the most expensive, it can be hard to know which chop house is worth your fleeting time and hard earned money.
Malone's serves only corn-fed USDA Prime steaks including a 12-ounce sirloin, filet mignon and rib-eye. The prime rib is also a standout, but whatever you order, make sure you start with their famous steak and potato soup. Located in the city of Pico Rivera, Dal Rae might be a haul for some people, but no matter how scary traffic is looking, this is a trip worth making.
Finish your meal with the freshly made powdered beignets or a slice of banoffee pie—and maybe a cinnamon-spiked tequila espresso martini. In place of iceberg wedges and grilled swordfish, look for Alaskan king crab and Louisiana shrimp Louis, bone marrow flan with toasted brioche and French loup de mer with Moroccan chermoula. Not the usual four or five choices, but a total of 17 cuts and places of origin, from a Prime Creekstone Farms rib-eye to genuine Japanese wagyu rib-eye from Miyazaki Prefecture grilled over white oak and mesquite charcoal. Dark woods, potted palms, chandeliers, bookshelves and deep Chesterfield-style booths immediately let you know that Harris' Steakhouse, a San Francisco landmark since 1984, means business.
And considering the name of the place, it's best to stay in the red meat category for entrees. Cuts range from porterhouse to chopped sirloin, but we love the house prime rib—a slow-roasted slab they've been cooking the exact same way since the Truman administration. A meal at this Beverly Hills original is bound to feel a little like eating on a cruise ship, but the food is legitimately delicious. Between the spinning salad, the "meat and potato" martinis, and the glorious, silver prime rib cart that rolls right up to your table, expect a show from start to finish.
The fire chief also maintained that the fire was accidental, and said it appears to have been sparked by a spray insulation foam trailer fire. Witnesses and social media video described spectacularly high flames, leaping 50 feet in the air. The fire was mostly extinguished as of noon, though firefighters were still spraying hot spots. There was ash all over the ground, and traffic was stopped on many surrounding streets. "We watched it start to smoke gradually and then we saw the smoke get bigger, and then, initially, the front of the building caught on fire," the witness said.
injured in 2-alarm apartment fire in south Charlotte
Fire crews from across the Charlotte area were called in to assist the Charlotte Fire Department. The fire was visible for miles with large plumes of smoke filling the air all over Charlotte. One person near the fire said they started yelling out of their window but firefighters couldn't hear them. Construction workers told the Charlotte Fire Department that there are still two construction workers that are unaccounted for. The deaths of Sherrill and Holmes came after an apartment complex still under construction burst into flames on Thursday morning after a spray foam insulation trailer caught fire.
Bodies of 2 missing workers recovered at site of Charlotte 5-alarm fire
— Officials from the City of Charlotte held a media briefing Friday. Fire Chief Reginald Johnson confirmed that the fire was started by a spray insulation trailer on the ground floor. Chief Johnson also confirmed that two construction workers lost their lives in the fire.
WCNC would like to send you push notifications about the latest news and weather.
Demonte Sherrill was one of the two construction workers who were unaccounted for immediately after the fire. Firefighters were able to rescue a crane operator who had been trapped high above the smoke and flames. Within an hour of starting, the fire was escalated to a five-alarm situation.
Road closures
The site of the fire had two twin buildings that were under construction. Firefighters did successfully extinguish small fires that had spread to the second building. That second building was largely undamaged during the five-alarm fire across the street.
Fire officials said crews had several "maydays," which means crews were either trapped or had access issues when escaping. In total, 15 workers were rescued from the site and no firefighters were injured. A construction worker on the scene of the massive fire told WCNC Charlotte that he and his crew were working in the building before the massive blaze.

Apartment fire in east Charlotte under investigation, fire officials say.
The Charlotte Fire Department responded to the scene on Liberty Row Drive near Fairview Road shortly after 9 a.m.. The five-alarm fire was the city’s first of the year. Jennings said police assisted Charlotte Fire with traffic control, as well as with the evacuation process.
They said when the flames sparked, the workers themselves tried to put out the fire. But because of how quickly it spread, it was impossible for the workers to get it under control. Video released by the department shows flames and smoke billowing from a structure in the 7700 block of Liberty Row Drive. Fifteen people, including a crane operator, were rescued by firefighters Thursday. The two people who died in the 2,000-degree fire were believed to be on the sixth floor of a building before flames tore through the area, officials said. The crane operator, among the 15 people rescued by firefighters, was treated by local EMS for non life-threatening injuries and taken to a hospital, fire officials reported.
Officials said the blaze was started by a grill on a second-floor balcony. “I saw the smoke when I first got home and my first thought I have a dog that I love terribly and I booked it inside,” one resident said. “I’m doing the dishes, I look out I see this billowing smoke and then I look closer at the window and I see these flames and I just started screaming,” another said. Paramedics said two people were evaluated with non-life-threatening injuries. CHARLOTTE — Firefighters with the Charlotte Fire Department battled a two-alarm fire in south Charlotte Sunday afternoon.
The cloud of smoke from the fire was so thick it was registering on the radar. WCNC Charlotte Forecaster Larry Sprinkle said, due to the smoke, the air quality skyrocketed to the "very unhealthy" level. Sprinkle strongly encouraged everyone to stay inside because the dense smoke is in the air, and experts aren't aware yet what is in the smoke chemical-wise.
According to its website, Modera SouthPark is a wood-frame, podium-style community consisting of twin buildings that make up more than 200 apartment homes. They noticed the side of the building was smoking, so they started yelling out of the window, but the firefighters couldn't hear them. The witness said, at that point, they started taking video of the smoke. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is asking people to avoid the SouthPark area so their crews can respond to the fire efficiently. Drivers are being asked by CMPD to avoid Liberty Drive, Assembly Street, Barclay Downs Drive and Park South Drive until all flames are contained. By 6 p.m., Fairview Road was reopened during the congested evening commute.
The Charlotte Fire Department responded to an apartment fire in the 6800 block of Fishers Farm Lane. The station quoted a fire official from nearby Waxhaw saying that first responders were "putting plenty of water on the crane to ensure the metal didn’t twist or collapse." "The CMPD is assisting the Charlotte Fire Department with road closures in the area... due to a large fire," it said, adding, "do not call 911 unless you have an emergency."
One user on Twitter, @TheHomeT, shared a video of the smoke plume emanating from the fire.
One person had to be rescued after becoming trapped atop a crane. That person was later rescued by Charlotte firefighters and was transported by Medic with non-life-threatening injuries. By Thursday evening, not much of the apartment building remained. Many of the construction workers said there were crews on every floor of the building.
